17341. RESTORATIVE JUSTICE AND YOUTH CRIME IN GREAT BRITAIN. This paper discusses the concept of restorative justice and assesses its importance in relation to youth crime in Britain. Provides an overview of restorative justice and discusses elements of restorative justice found in the UK Crime and Disorder Act and the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act of 1999. Examines evidence of the effectiveness of the approach. Concludes that assessments of the restorative justice programs have been generally positive, however, a problem is also perceived in terms of lack of victim participation; such participation is seen as being particularly important in the effectiveness of the restorative justice approach.
