17609. SCANDALS AT THE NEW YORK TIMES. This paper provides an overview and analysis of the impact of the scandals involving Jayson Blair and Judith Miller (and other reporters) on the reputation of the New York Times. The paper provides details on the scandals at the Times and evaluates the newspaper’s responses to the scandals. Argues that the scandals could have been prevented or greatly mitigated through better editorial oversight. Concludes that while the Times’ reputation was damaged by these scandals, by making a concerted effort to deal with the problems and prevent them from occurring again, the Times will undoubtedly be able to restore its credibility.
