| 17569. SECURITY & TERRORIST THREATS AT MEGA SPORTING EVENTS. This paper provides an overview and analysis of the threat posed by terrorism at the Olympics and other mega sporting events and considers the efforts made since the 1972 Munich Olympics to protect the security and safety of athletes, fans and host-nations at such events. Following an overview of the impact of the terrorism at the 1972 Olympics, the analysis considers mega-event security in the post-Munich era through the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney. The impact of the terrorist attacks of 9/11 is considered as is mega-event security (at the World Series, Olympics, Super Bowl , etc.) during the post-9/11 period.
