17230. "THE WOMAN WITH THE ZEBRA'S PENIS" BY CAMILLA POWER AND IAN WATTS. This article, which appeared in a 1997 issue of the “Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute” is concerned with “symbolic gender reversals” in the initiation rituals of two African tribes (the Khoisan and the Hadza). This paper discusses how the finding in the article relate to established anthropological theories, and it disputes the “sex-strike” theory used by the article’s authors. Keywords: anthropology initiation rites gender African tribes. Written 2004. 6 pages; 6 footnotes; 4 bibliographic sources. 1,443 words.   $42
